Colorado native Mark Brinkerhoff is a third generation family partner in La Loma Mexican Restaurant. Following in the footsteps of his grandfather and father, Mark returned to Colorado in 2010 to work at Brinkerhoff Hospitality. Mark is charged with overseeing day-to-day operations and expansion.
Mark is currently managing the development of three La Loma Mexican Restaurants, and Sierra Grill, which will be an 8,500 sq. ft. wood-fired grill restaurant in the RidgeGate development of Lone Tree.
Mark attended Pepperdine University, where he studied international business. Prior to entering hospitality, Mark pursued a music career in Los Angeles. He was a member in several rock bands, and also worked as a studio musician producing music for various film and television projects. However, it’s his early years working as a locker room attendant at Castle Pine Golf Club that he credits most of his knowledge of hospitality.
Mark finds it a great honor to work alongside his father, William Brinkerhoff, in continuing to grow the La Loma brand, a legacy that his grandfather Sonny Brinkerhoff began over 35 years ago.
Carlen Daniels, La Loma’s Director of Operations, was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. She enjoyed a study abroad program in Bologna, Italy, which sparked her passion for wonderful food. She moved to Colorado in 2006 to pursue a B.S./B.A. in Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Management from the University of Denver. After graduation, she worked with the Sage Restaurant Group in a management position, and later moved on to United Restaurant and Hospitality Consultants, where she traveled the country improving restaurant operations and opening new restaurants. In July of 2014, she joined the La Loma team, where she was delighted to discover La Loma’s loyal following. In her spare time, she enjoys time with family and friends and exploring Colorado’s outdoor spaces, including hiking with her boyfriend and her dog, Nolan.
Efren Velasquez hails from Roswell, New Mexico, but also spent a lot of time in Chihuahua, Mexico during his younger years. After attending the University of the Southwest in Hobbs, New Mexico, he moved to Texas, where he worked in the kitchens of several Mexican restaurants until his move to Denver in 2002. Shortly after his arrival, he joined the team at La Loma, starting as a server, then promoted to bartender, then Front of House manager, and then as Sonny Brinkerhoff’s personal chef. After Sonny’s passing, Efren returned to La Loma, working as the restaurant’s chef, and has been there ever since. Creating good food is Efren’s passion, and he gets the most joy out of watching someone’s expression of happiness when they eat something delicious that he has made for them.
